Basement Remodeling
Process
Before
meeting with the builder
Have a couple of different ideas, First bare minimum
design, second more involved designs, and third over
the top design. Cut pictures from magazines for
design ideas. Set a rough budget.
First
meeting with the builder
Discuss your project openly state your needs, wants
and dream ideas. The builder will take all
necessary dimensions and photos
Second
meeting with the builder
The
builder will present at multiple designs with quotes
in a 3 dimension CAD layout.
He will walk thru the designs in your home.
Take some time to review the designs in private and
if needed ask for a redesign of one of the plans.
Agree
on a design plan, budget and set a finish date.
Pay the
first installment payment.
The
builder will submit the plans and get the building
permit.
Pay the
second installment payment.
The
building begins:
Apply a
mold inhibitor to the concrete walls and seal the
foundation from the inside
Install pre cast stairs and egress windows if needed
Rough frame and install fire stop / draft
stop
Rough in electrical and plumbing
Rough in heating and air conditioning vents
Rough in structured wiring (computer networking), cable
and phone
Rough in theater surround sound wiring
Get professionally inspected
Pay
the third installment payment
Install insulation
Hang
and finish drywall
Start
building cabinets and custom features
Pay the
fourth installment payment
Hang doors, install cabinetry and finish
trim molding
Prime wall and finish paint walls and trim
molding
Finish
electric service and plumbing fixtures
Pay
fifth installment payment
Install flooring
Finish
installing the theater
Final
walk through with the builder
Receive finial inspection and certificate of occupancy
and pay finial installment payment
